A small sized, Costa Rican, warm to cold growing, epiphytic species occuring in windy cloud forests on tree trunks at elevations of 1400 to 2200 meters with erect stems enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths with a single, apical, patulate, slightly rough adaxially, petiolate leaf with the apex either emarginate or apicaulate. This species blooms in the fall, winter and spring with a 5 to 7" long inflorescence that is shorter than the leaves and has 1 to 3 successive flowers.

found at around 2,500 metres growing as an epiphyte in cloud forest where it is also subject to strong breezes.
Grown cool at a winter night temperature of 10c (50f) often dropping to 8c (47f). Lots of air movement, enough to make the foliage move gently and the flowers to nod. Humidity of around 85% - 90% and some dappled sunlight. A maximum summer daytime temp of 24c (75f) is aimed for. Compost is kept moist, but slightly drier as temperatures drop through late autumn to early spring. Flowers on this clone are a very deep mahogony-red and measure 2 cm X 2 cm excluding the tails, the tails are 6 cm long. Flowering starts in mid spring and continues through to early summer. This plant is growing in a Sphagnum/Perlite compost.
